Today i got up and felt the symptoms of flu. I did not feel like going to office and being self employed i had the choice to do what i desire; but like every other time the most convenient option i had, has been taken away from me a long time ago when i set priorities and goals for myself and TechBlocks. So here i start my day with my daily musings.
Yesterday i met a few of our clients and partners. I met one of the executives to discuss how we could help them with a better value proposition during these troubled times. During the conversation we discussed a few management styles and how organizational leaders shape an enterprise which is a reflection of their experiences and to a great extent their personalities. He also described how he has had to evolve with changing times to survive the changing tides of time. It reminded me of an adage: "Your biggest strength is also sometimes your biggest weakness!” The great challenge of a leader sometime is to pull themselves out of the thick of things and be objective; the capability to look at things from outside.
My wife last night was telling a bed time story to my 4 year old son. It was a story of a king and his 7 sons who did not get along and were self centered. Towards the end of his life he got worried and called them in his bedroom and asked each of them to bring a stick. He demonstrated how when sticks put together were impossible to break while individually they could barely resist the brute force each applied to break those sticks. Moral of the story "Unity is strength".
Sometimes same stories you have known all your life teach you new things and give you new perspectives in life. As a passive audience to the story that i had probably heard so many times as kid and may be afterwards, it gave me new perspectives about my brain child "TechBlocks".As we pursue our careers or advice others on theirs. One important thing to remember is we can put ourselves in a position to succeed or a position to fail. It is a big responsibility to bear for oneself. The magnitude is very different when we impact careers of others. At TechBlocks i bear some of the same responsibilities. When i got up this morning and decided to hit the ground running, i was again reminded of the challenges that lay in front of us at TechBlocks and me personally as well, to set up a culture where there is an inclusive style of management and foster an environment where everyone is put in a position to realize their potential to their own satisfaction. Accomplishing this where we encourage healthy competition, teamwork, innovation while being focused, ambitious and objective is a culture that I envision.
To tune our processes that perpetually propel this culture is a challenge for me and our practice directors to take up every day of our professional life.
